Is there a national e-bike subsidy in Switzerland in 2026?

No. Switzerland does not have one federal e-bike purchase grant available to all residents.

Most support is offered by municipalities, with some cantons publishing directories or coordinating information. The amount and eligibility rules therefore depend on your postcode, place of residence and the seller you choose.

The Canton of Vaud, for example, maintains an official list of municipalities offering support for electric bikes. It also warns that the list is indicative and that buyers should confirm the current rules with their municipality before purchasing.

Lausanne e-bike subsidy

Lausanne continues to offer one of the most established local schemes through the municipal équiwatt programme. The support is available to eligible Lausanne residents purchasing an electric bike for their own use.

How much can you receive?

• Standard e-bike: 15% of the purchase price, up to CHF 400
• Electric cargo or longtail bike: 15%, up to CHF 1,000
• Applicants under 25 or receiving qualifying health-insurance support: up to 50%, capped at CHF 1,000
• Replacement battery: up to CHF 300

The scheme accepts 25 km/h and 45 km/h electric bikes, but excludes full-suspension electric mountain bikes. The bike must be purchased from an approved physical retailer in Lausanne, and internet purchases are not eligible.

City of Fribourg e-bike subsidy

The City of Fribourg has confirmed its e-bike support programme for 2026. It covers new urban electric bicycles, including cargo bikes and longtails, as well as replacement batteries.

• Urban e-bike: 20% of the purchase price, up to CHF 300
• Electric cargo bike or longtail: 20%, up to CHF 600
• Replacement battery: 20%, up to CHF 300

The bike must be bought in Switzerland from a seller with a registered physical establishment. Used e-bikes, fat bikes and full-suspension electric mountain bikes are excluded.

Meyrin e-bike subsidy

Meyrin offers one of the most generous verified municipal grants in Switzerland in 2026.

• Support: 20% of the purchase price
• Maximum: CHF 1,000 per vehicle

The subsidy is available once every five years to residents aged 16 or over. Local companies and non-profit associations may also qualify.

The bike must be purchased from a retailer with an address in the Canton of Geneva. Versoix e-bike subsidy

Versoix provides a fixed subsidy of CHF 200 for an electric bicycle. The scheme is available to residents aged over 12 and remains subject to the municipal budget.

To qualify:

• The e-bike must cost at least CHF 1,500.
• It must be purchased in the cantons of Geneva or Vaud.
• The application must be submitted within six months of purchase.
• A new subsidy can generally be requested once every five years.

Online retailers without a physical branch in Geneva or Vaud are explicitly excluded. Both new and eligible second-hand bikes purchased through recognised local retailers may qualify.

Satigny e-bike subsidy

Satigny offers residents a fixed contribution of CHF 250 towards a new electric or conventional bicycle.

Compared with several other municipalities, Satigny does not restrict the purchase to one canton. However, the bike must still be purchased in Switzerland, so a direct shipment and invoice from Spain would not meet this particular condition.

The City of Sion continues to offer financial assistance to residents purchasing an electric bicycle from a retailer based in Sion. The scheme remains subject to the available municipal fund.
